PARK RANGER AND NATURALIST POSITION AVAILABLE

  

There are openings for Park Ranger and Naturalist positions at Flushing Township Nature Park.  Flushing Township Nature Park is located in Flushing just north of Mount Morris Road at 8301 N. McKinley Road.  The Nature Park offers a combination of casual recreation and nature interpretation and appreciation.

The park is open from sunrise to sunset, 7 days a week.  The hours of these positions will be primarily afternoons and weekends, although hours may be flexible to work around school schedules.

Both positions are funded through a Community Development Block Grant.  This grant restricts the applicant to being an age between 16 through 22, and having a moderate to low annual household income (see chart below).  These positions are seasonal and have no benefits.  Pay varies on experience.

Park Ranger duties include:

General maintenance

– mowing, minor maintenance of equipment, cleaning rest rooms etc.

Informing the public of park information and activities

Enforcing park regulations

Small construction projects

Assisting in seed collection, plantings and weeding

Assisting in invasive plant removal

Variety of other duties

 

Park Naturalist duties include:

Informing the public of park information and activities

Enforcing park regulations

Assisting in seed collection, and plantings

Assisting in invasive plant removal

Assisting in the implementation of new programs

Conducting public and school programs

Assisting in biological research or field studies
